OpenAI is seeking an experienced Observability Engineer to join our Applied Engineering team. We're on a mission to bring AI technology safely to the world, prioritizing responsible use over unfettered growth. As we scale rapidly, we need problem-solving engineers to ensure our systems remain performant and reliable.
In this role, you'll work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment to deliver our technology to millions of users worldwide. You'll be crucial in maintaining and enhancing the observability, reliability, scalability, and performance of our evolving infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain effective monitoring, logging, and tracing systems
- Implement tools for logging, monitoring, and alerting across platforms
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate observability practices
- Analyze system performance and identify improvement areas
- Stay current with observability trends and introduce innovative solutions
- Participate in strategic planning for technology roadmap
- Create comprehensive documentation and reports on system performance
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Proficiency in monitoring tools (e.g., DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack)
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Strong software engineering background and relevant programming skills
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies
- Understanding of microservices architecture and service mesh technologies
- Knowledge of distributed systems, networking, and database technologies
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
