Join OpenAI's Search Infrastructure team as an Engineering Manager and lead the charge in building the fastest, most reliable, and scalable search platform. As the backbone connecting customers with vital information, you'll drive operational excellence through cutting-edge infrastructure.
In this role, you'll work closely with search engineers and other teams to scale our search platform, ensuring top-notch performance and reliability. Your focus will be on meeting increasing customer demands while fostering innovation in information retrieval.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of backend and infrastructure engineers
- Collaborate across teams to push the boundaries of search reliability, performance, and scale
- Establish a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture that fosters innovation and welcomes diverse viewpoints
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 15+ years in engineering roles, with 8+ years leading large-scale infrastructure or systems engineering teams
- Proven track record in designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems
- Deep expertise in scaling search systems and optimizing performance
- Passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Experience attracting and hiring top talent for competitive technical roles
- Comfort with fast-changing conditions and ambiguity
- Experience in strategic planning and execution at a senior level
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with search technologies, algorithms, and indexing
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Track record in improving reliability, scalability, and performance of large distributed systems
- Experience in hyper-growth companies and scaling engineering teams
